Restore water-based Transportation
Millennium Bio Energy will design a harvesting strategy with local stakeholders of the lakes and rivers it works on so that water hyacinth population is controlled. We will invest in harvesting infrastructure or simply buy the biomass from local governments. This eliminates the cost of harvesting or convert the harvesting cost into a benefit. In addition, an effective control of Water Hyacinth infestations reduces sedimentation rates, flooding and droughts and helps avoid cost of dredging. |
Improve Energy Supply and Stability
The availability of energy is considered one of the key prerequisites for the development of rural areas.
The power plants of Millennium are superbly designed to exist autonomously and are not dependent on supply of external fuels from remote locations. They can be fed with locally available biomass and deliver its power into a local - regional or national grid. |
Improve Water Quality and Fishery
Water Hyacinth can contribute to fish population. Fish spawn and keep their offspring well protected in the roots of the floating water hyacinth plants. It also provides a habitat for birds and animals which require wetlands to thrive.
However, once Water Hyacinth populations exceed a critical limit, it becomes a serious hazard to the health of the lakes and rivers and all life that depends on these. Water Hyacinth infestations block sunlight from reaching underwater ecosystems, damaging the food chain and ultimately killing fish. Effective control of the Water Hyacinth population therefore protects fishery and the lake's ability to feed its surrounding population. |
